She found the perfect place in an East London house share, and when she got to the room, she immediately felt at home. Maybe it was the map on the wall? Or was it the positive quotes and notes around the room? Something said this was the right place to be.
On a chilly February morning, Ella returned to London, England after visiting family back home in Canada. She had already been living in different areas of London for a year, but she wanted to live in East London this time. She needed a room for a short stay, until she figured out long term housing there. She checked AirBnB for a cozy spot.
She found the perfect place in an East London house share, and when she got to the room, she immediately felt at home. Maybe it was the map on the wall? Or was it the positive quotes and notes around the room? Something said this was the right place to be. After a few weeks, she told her friends that she really wanted to meet the owner of this room when he got back from his trip.
Meanwhile, on an adventure of his own in Bali, Richard had been getting a few friendly messages from the guest in his room in London. She had been taking care of his plants, and asking to borrow his yoga mat. She sounded lovely, and he was wondering if he'd get the chance to meet her when he was back from his trip.
As Richard's return date approached, fortune struck. Another room in the house became available for a short time. Ella moved rooms, Richard returned, and the two could finally meet face to face. They got along well right away. They shared meals, travel stories, went to yoga classes, and hung out together with their housemates.
After a few weeks, Ella did move out to find a longer term place to rent. By then, Richard and Ella had become friends and continued to see each other until they started dating soon after.
They went on many trips together - a great way to see every side of a person and test a new relationship.
They travelled to Slovakia, Spain, France, Iceland, Scotland, Indonesia, and of course the Isle of Man and Canada in their first two years.
In 2016, they moved from London to the Isle of Man to spend time in Richard's homeland, and with his family. After that, they moved to Ella's homeland of Canada.
In 2017, on an adventure in Bali, Richard proposed on a deserted beach, and Ella said "Yes"!
Since then, they have been taking trips back to the UK and within Canada. They got married in August 2018 and went to Japan on their honeymoon. They will forever have two homes and will forever travel together around the world. Two solo travellers who knew themselves so well, that when they met each other, they knew. Meant to be.
